Casa-Voyageurs connection risk

The Al Boraq TGV gets you to Casablanca fast. The conventional train you change onto does not always wait. Most missed-connection stories in Morocco happen at this station.

The tool

What this solves

Morocco's published train timetables look like a usable network until you realize the fastest train in the country (Al Boraq TGV, Tangier鈥揅asablanca) does not connect to Marrakech or the south at the same station as it serves Casablanca. The conventional trains leave from the same Casa-Voyageurs station but the buffer between an Al Boraq arrival and the next Marrakech or Fes train is often shorter than the layover a delayed TGV needs. This tool calculates the buffer and flags the risk.

How to read the result

The buffer is the minutes between Al Boraq arrival and the next connecting train, assuming a notional 30 min buffer for off-train/walk/platform.

Green (40+ min): comfortable. Amber (20-40 min): tight; if Al Boraq is 10+ min late you will miss the connection. Red (under 20 min): not realistic; book a different Al Boraq arrival.

Bags modify the verdict. With 2+ large bags the platform walk is 5-10 min slower.

Limitations

ONCF does not always publish the next-day deltas reliably, especially in winter. The Al Boraq delay distribution is hard to characterize from public data; anecdotally, 5-10 min delays are common, 20+ min are uncommon. Fes trains have a different platform layout than Marrakech trains at Casa-Voyageurs.

FAQ

Does ONCF hold the train if Al Boraq is late?

No. Al Boraq and the conventional lines are run by the same operator, but no formal connection guarantee exists in 2026. The next train after a missed connection may be 3-6 hours later.

Should I just skip Casablanca?

For most pairs. Casablanca is not a tourist destination 鈥?it's a transfer city. The rail network is designed around it for political and historical reasons, not for traveller convenience. If your itinerary doesn't need to pass through Casablanca, don't.

What about Casa-Port?

Casa-Port is a separate, smaller station in the port district. Some commuter services use it. Casa-Voyageurs is the long-distance hub. Do not confuse them.
