Islamic holiday date calculator -- 5 years ahead
Morocco follows the Umm al-Qura calendar for civil holidays and adds moon sighting for the religious calendar. Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha move back ~11 days each year. This tool gives the 2026-2030 dates so you can plan your trip.
The tool
What this solves
The Islamic calendar is lunar, so each holiday moves about 11 days earlier each year. Eid al-Fitr 2026 falls on 20 March; in 2030 it falls on 4 February. This matters for trip planning because Eid changes Morocco -- shops close, transport fills up, riads price up. This tool gives the dates 5 years ahead.
How to read the result
Dates are from Umm al-Qura calendar (Saudi Arabia), used as the reference for Morocco. The official Moroccan date may shift by 1 day.
Ramadan is a 30-day month. Eid al-Fitr is the day after. Eid al-Adha is 70 days after the start of Ramadan.
Mawlid and Ras l'Am are public holidays but not as impactful as Eid. Some shops close; most stay open.
Limitations
The Umm al-Qura calendar is approximate. The official Moroccan date is decided by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs based on moon sighting. The Moroccan date may differ from Umm al-Qura by 1 day. Verify closer to the holiday.
FAQ
Are shops closed on Eid al-Fitr?
Most medina shops close for the day. Modern supermarkets and pharmacies stay open. Restaurants mostly closed.
Are tourist sites open during Ramadan?
Yes, but with reduced hours. Some monuments (Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs) close earlier. Plan for shorter days.
What about the week before Ramadan?
Hotels and riads fill up fast and prices rise. The week before Eid is similarly busy for outbound travel.
