Not all Moroccan ATMs charge the same fee, and not all home banks refund the same. The standard 'use any bank ATM' advice misses that an Attijariwafa ATM charges differently from a BMCE ATM, and that your UK or EU bank refunds differently for each.

Most guides say 'bring cash and use an ATM'. The real cost of a 7-day trip in MAD depends on the home bank's FX margin and the ATM fixed fee. A US tourist on a Chase Sapphire debit will pay 0% FX, a US tourist on a Bank of America debit will pay 5% total. This tool makes that concrete.
How to read the result
Total fees are an estimate of MAD-equivalent fees. For UK/EU/US the home bank fee (1.5-3%) is the main driver; for travel-debit cards it's 0%.
Withdrawal count matters: ATM fixed fees (25-35 MAD) hit you per transaction, so 4 withdrawals of 7000 MAD each is cheaper than 14 of 2000 MAD.
Number of withdrawals is capped at 7 -- most banks decline after 3-4 daily and limit to 7-8 over a week.
Limitations
Fees change. Revolut changed its interbank fee structure in 2023-2024; Wise changed in 2024; this represents mid-2026 values. US Schwab card charging may differ; Capital One Venture changed in 2024. Local Moroccan banks may charge different fees for premium cards. Always check your bank's app for the live fee before relying on these numbers.
FAQ
Is it better to bring USD/EUR cash and exchange in Morocco?
For large amounts, yes -- bureaux de change in Marrakech and Fes medinas offer 0.5-1% margin vs the 1.5% ATM cost. For small amounts, ATM is more convenient and not much more expensive.
Do all Moroccan ATMs accept foreign cards?
All Visa, Mastercard and Cirrus/Maestro cards are accepted at Attijariwafa, BMCE, Banque Populaire. American Express is accepted at some Attijariwafa machines in big cities only.
Can I pay by card everywhere?
In Marrakech, Fes and Tangier medinas -- mostly no. In modern restaurants, supermarkets, and riads -- yes. ATMs are still essential.
